Know of someone who needs cheering up this Easter/Spring season? Here's a cute and simple Easter WITNESS Basket that is easy for the kids to make to give to someone. I did this spring project with my 5th grade religious education students (10-11 year-olds) and they had fun!

• Special: Witness Baskets
• Question to ask:
  • How do you feel when someone is kind or caring towards you?
  • How do you feel when you do something kind for someone else?
• Development:
  • Witness Baskets
  • Directions for the 5th Grade Spring Project
  • Supply the following for each child:
    • 10 2"x8" Easter colored construction paper strips
    • 1 2"x11 1/2" strip of paper for handle
    • 1 piece bubble gum
    • 1 lifesaver wrapped or small roll of live savers
    • 1 band-aid (maybe those neon colored or designer ones)
    • 1 folded kleenex
    • 1 scripture verse
    • 1 small eraser
    • 1 rubber band
    • 1 salt pouch
    • 1 printed prayer
    • 1 cartoon strip or comic strip
    • 1 lunch size brown bag
    • 1 description sheet (containing: a tissue for..., a kleenex for..., etc.)
  
  Have description sheet cut in strips before class. Have children decorate their bags. Shred the tops of bags to resemble Easter grass, or roll down the top. Attach longer strip for handle with staples. Have children attach description each description strip to a colored strip. Next attach each item with tape or staple or glue to its description. As they complete a strip, place it in the bag (basket).
  
  Have the children think about who would appreciate this bag of "wishes". Maybe a sick relative or neighbor, or it is OK to split it with more than one person. Have the children share who they chose the following week and talk about it during class.

  • A BANDAID - to remind you that God heals your hurt feelings and you can heal the hurt feelings of others

  • A RUBBER BAND - to remind you hugs are important and give your family a hug
  • ------------------------------------------------------------
  • BUBBLES - to remind you to take the time to remember the little things God made for us
  • ------------------------------------------------------------
  • SALT - you are the salt of the earth

  • A PRAYER - to share with family and friends
  • ------------------------------------------------------------
  • A CARTOON - God is joyful and wants you to be happy
